MRS. SOUTHERN'S TEACHER PAGE

Welcome to Preschool!

Hebrews 12:1-2 (ESV) – Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God.

Meet the Teacher and the Assistant
Kate Southern – 3 Year Old Lead Teacher

My name is Kate Southern. I am married to my husband of 11 years, Tom. We have been members at Immanuel since 2009. I am a mother of four children. Emma (17 1/2) and Carter (15), my stepchildren, we affectionately refer to as “the bigs”. Caraline (9 1/2) and Coleton (7) are our youngest, and we refer to them as “the littles”. I graduated from Michigan State University in 2004 with a BA in Psychology. After working as an assistant at Tutor Time in Okemos and then as a paraprofessional in Bloomfield Hills, I returned to graduate school at Wayne State University to pursue a Master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology. I graduated in 2010 and completed my clinical fellowship at Children’s Hospital of Michigan. I am a Michigan licensed speech-language pathologist and continue to work part time providing private speech therapy through my own company.  I also work a few days a week for Detroit Institute for Children primarily in charter schools with school aged children. I have assisted Mrs. Clor and Mrs. Sell in the 4 year old and 3 year old programs before becoming a lead teacher of 3’s. I am so thankful that the Lord has led me to this opportunity to teach at Immanuel. I truly love working with children and am so excited to share the love of Jesus with your and 3 year old preschoolers.

Becky Safran- 3 Year Old Assistant Teacher

My name is Becky Safran. I am very excited to continue to work with children and families here at Immanuel. I have been married to Matt for 19 years and we live in Clinton Township. We have three children, all of whom attend(ed) school here at Immanuel. My son Luke is in eleventh grade, my son Noah is in eighth grade, and my daughter Leah is in sixth grade. We also have two dogs named Penny and Parker. In my free time, I enjoy attending my children’s sporting events, reading, and spending time with family and friends. I assisted Carol Shull in 3 year old preschool for two years and am excited for this opportunity to team up with Kate for our 3rd year together, my 5th year at Immanuel.
